SUMMARY:📖 Understanding Your Credit Union's Financial Statement
DESCRIPTION:As a credit union director\, it is crucial to understand your credit union's financial statement because it provides a comprehensive overview of the organization's financial health. The financial statement contains important information about the credit union's assets\, liabilities\, income\, and expenses\, which can help you make informed decisions about the organization's future.\n\nBy understanding your credit union's financial statement\, you can identify areas of strength and weakness\, and make strategic decisions to improve the credit union's financial performance. For example\, if you notice that the credit union's expenses are increasing faster than its income\, you may need to adjust the budget or look for ways to increase revenue. Similarly\, if you see that the credit union's loan portfolio is growing rapidly\, you may need to ensure that the credit union has adequate reserves to cover potential losses.\n\nFurthermore\, understanding the financial statement can help you fulfill your fiduciary responsibilities as a credit union director. You have a duty to act in the best interests of the credit union and its members\, and understanding the financial statement is essential to fulfilling this duty. By monitoring the credit union's financial performance and making informed decisions\, you can help ensure the long-term success of the credit union and its ability to serve its members.\n\nIn summary\, understanding your credit union's financial statement is critical to making informed decisions\, identifying areas of strength and weakness\, fulfilling your fiduciary responsibilities\, and ensuring the long-term success of the credit union.\n\n

SUMMARY:Strategic Scenario Planning
DESCRIPTION:Strategic Scenario Planning in Uncertain Times: Because Nostradamus Retired EarlyIf you’re serving on a credit union board\, congratulations. You’re a volunteer who willingly signed up to guide an institution in a world that looks like a badly written dystopian novel. Pandemics\, inflation\, talent shortages\, tech disruption\, AI deciding it wants your job—these are the plot twists. And\, spoiler alert\, you don’t get to close the book and walk away.\n\nThat’s why “strategic scenario planning” has become the new hot buzzword in board governance circles. Don’t worry: this isn’t another corporate fad\, like “synergizing our holistic mindfulness KPIs.” Scenario planning is simply what happens when you admit you don’t actually know what the future holds (and yes\, your strategic plan still pretends otherwise). It’s about creating structured “what ifs” so that when life happens—and it will—you’re not left blinking into the boardroom’s fluorescent lights saying\, “Well\, nobody could’ve seen this coming.”\n\nTIM Transform Inspire Motivate\nTim Harrington\, CPA&nbsp\;RET\nPresident\, Timothy P. SUMMARY:Prepare Today. Lead With Confidence Tomorrow.
DESCRIPTION:In today’s rapidly changing environment\, effective credit union leadership requires more than operational excellence—it demands strategic foresight. Understanding how economic cycles influence member behavior\, liquidity\, lending\, and institutional risk is essential for building long-term stability.\nHistory shows that economic disruption is not an exception but a recurring reality. Since 1900\, nearly one-quarter of U.S. economic performance has occurred during periods of recession\, financial panic\, or major market correction. Across the last century\, the nation has faced more than 10 significant economic downturns\, each contributing to widespread institutional failures and billions in losses.\nFor credit unions\, the ability to engage in IRR/ALM strategies to anticipate these challenges and respond with confidence is a defining advantage.\nIn this session\, we will simulate the key economic pressures that directly affect credit union performance\, from deposit migration and loan demand to liquidity stress and credit risk. We’ll walk through how to build scenarios tailored to your credit union's balance sheet and discuss practical\, tested strategies to increase resilience and ensure member service continuity in any environment.\n\n

SUMMARY:The Future is Here!
DESCRIPTION:Credit unions are increasingly integrating cryptocurrency services\, driven by member demand and the need to remain competitive. A recent survey indicates that 11% of credit unions are currently offering or piloting cryptocurrency transaction capabilities\, with plans to expand in the near future.\n\nThis shift is supported by federal guidance allowing credit unions to partner with third-party providers to offer digital asset services\, enabling members to buy\, sell\, and hold cryptocurrencies through their existing financial accounts.\n\nBecky Reed\, COO BankSocial shares what she sees as the most critical trends that every credit union leader needs to understand as the future of payments quickly evolves.\nStablecoin and Tokenized Deposit Rails Become Normalized:\nWith the regulatory clarity provided by GENIUS Act and parallel moves by traditional networks\, stablecoin and tokenized deposit payments will no longer be a “pilot” concept—they’ll be embedded into mainstream payment infrastructure for faster settlement and lower costs.Interchange Compression Drives Fee Model Shifts:\nTraditional interchange will continue to erode as more merchants adopt direct-settlement rails and embedded wallets. Financial institutions will pivot toward new network participation fees\, liquidity pool revenue\, and value-add service layers instead of relying on swipe fees.Programmable\, Instant\, and Global by Default:\nPayments will increasingly be embedded into apps\, contracts\, and platforms—not initiated by cards or ACH files. Programmable money\, instant settlement\, and cross-border capabilities will be baseline expectations\, not premium services.Contact Becky Becky Reed becky@braasconsulting.com \n\n
